Weekly Weather Challenge

As suggested by a student, this week’s photography challenge was to create an interesting image on a rainy day. I decide to shoot a close up macro image of water beading on the barbecue in the backyard. Because of the period of isolation, being creative can be a challenge. Looking at the world from a close up perspective is one way to be creative.

The first image was created using my older 35-70mm f3.5-5.6 Nikkor lens on the Nikon D750. A macro setting is allowed at the 35mm focal length. Using an exposure of 1/125 sec. @ f/8, 400 ISO, I was able to capture the depth of field for the foreground while maintaining enough blur in the background.

The second image was created using the 2x lens of my iPhone 8 Plus. Editing was done in camera using editing in Photos. Desaturation of the colour and slight adjustments to the contrast were made.

The third image was created using an old macro technique by reversing the lens on the camera. By simply holding my Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4 lens backwards against the lens mount. It takes a steady hand to hold the lens and focus is achieved by moving in and out with the whole camera body. The extremely wide aperture and the macro view creates incredibly shallow depth of field.
